1-    Workshop on Religious Dialogue   

The Cultural Programs Office has organized in collaboration with Program for Civilization Studies and Dialogue of Cultures, Cairo University a workshop on Religious Dialogue on 5-6 May 2009.

The main objective of this activity is the assessment of the Initiatives between the Islamic and the Western world whether this Initiatives is Arabic or Foreign (European or American) and to present a clear vision on the efficiency of these initiatives in eradicating the gap between the Arabic (Islamic) and the Western Cultures.

Scholars and Experts in the topic of Religious and Cultural Dialogue participated in this seminar.

2-    Cinema club :

 The Cultural Programs Office in cooperation with various Egyptian Universities is organizing a long term activity on the role of cinema in shaping the mutual  stereotypes between nations . This activity aims at teaching the students scientific criticism for cultural products especially the films.

- The First Cinema Club Night:

The Cultural Programs Office in cooperation with the Center of European Studies organized a cinema night on the 16th of  December 2008 that presented the film " kingdom of Heaven"  accompanied by the analysis and comments of the Arab Intellectual Qasem Abdo Qasem.

- The Second Cinema Club Night:

The Cultural Programs Office in cooperation with Program for Civilization Studies and Dialogue of Cultures, Cairo University is organized a second cinema night on the 1st of June 2009 that will display and analyze the film of "Imam and Pastor".  

The main speakers:

  • Mr.Emad Karim, the movie director.
  • Mohamed Ashfa, the movie Imam.
  • Jeams Way, the movie Pastor.

- The Third Cinema Club Night:

The Office is going to organize the third night of this activity in cooperation with Faculty of Mass Communications Cairo University and it will present the film " Civic Duty".

 

 3-     A workshop on American Image between Bush and Obama

The Cultural Programs Office  (CPO) in cooperation with the Program for Democracy and Human Rights (PDHR), Cairo University organized a workshop on American Image between Bush and Obama on Monday the 16th of February 2009 , and the main aim of this event is to evaluate the United States Image during Bush administration beside the Policies followed by this Administration and its effect on the United States Image in the world.

The workshop also aimed at predict the future and to put a future vision for the way that Obama's Administration should follow so as to improve the United States Image  in the world in general and especially in the Islamic World.

A Group of Arab and Egyptian Intellectuals shared in the event sessions and some of them wrote papers on the themes of the workshop and it was as follow:

4-     The Egyptian Danish Dialogue Program: 

The Office had organized a joint program with the Danish Egyptian Institute for Dialogue to introduce Islam and Muslims to a group of Danish journalists.

5-Round Table Discussion on Developmental Media:

On the light of the world Development Information Day Media International Institution, Islamonline.net and Weghat Nazar magazine in cooperation with the United Nation’s development Program (UNDP) organized a round table discussion tackling the Developmental Media and how it can help in accelerating the development process in the society.The round table discussion was held on the 22nd of October 2009.

The round table discussion was a chance to gather prominent figures from different media agencies, International or non Governmental Organizations working in the field of Development and view it as a joint work between the media and developmental organizations.

The first stage of the it was considered as the input that tried to discuss the concept of the developmental media and whether there is an urgent need for it in the society or not, the different problems and challenges faced by all the actors and the second stage was considered as the output as it tried to conclude several practical suggestions from all the participants to have an active partnership between all actors in the development process.

The round table discussion was ended with several recommendations that will be activated in the near future with the will and the help of all the participants.

The recommendations are as follow:

  1. Organizing training for the journalists where the participants of the round table discussion can be trainers in it.
  2. Establishing Arab Network of the Developmental Media that can offer accurate information about the international Development Organizations and Media Agencies in the region and its activities and how to cooperate with them.
  3. The need to cooperate with the Corporate Institutions.
  4. The second meeting will be hosted by faculty of Mass Communications, Ahram Canadian University.
